![]() Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander. The term, "Spanish origin," can be used in addition to "Hispanic or Latino." A person of Cuban, Mexican, Puerto Rican, South or Central American, or other Spanish culture or origin, regardless of race. Terms such as "Haitian" or "Negro" can be used in addition to "Black or African American." A person having origins in any of the black racial groups of Africa. A person having origins in any of the original peoples of the Far East, Southeast Asia, or the Indian subcontinent including, for example, Cambodia, China, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippine Islands, Thailand, and Vietnam. A person having origins in any of the original peoples of North and South America (including Central America), and who maintains tribal affiliation or community attachment. The minimum categories for data on race and ethnicity for Federal statistics, program administrative reporting, and civil rights compliance reporting are defined as follows: There are two categories for data on ethnicity: "Hispanic or Latino," and "Not Hispanic or Latino." The standards have five categories for data on race: American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian, Black or African American, Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander, and White. The standards have been developed to provide a common language for uniformity and comparability in the collection and use of data on race and ethnicity by Federal agencies. They are not to be used as determinants of eligibility for participation in any Federal program. ![]() The categories in this classification are social-political constructs and should not be interpreted as being scientific or anthropological in nature.
